OXWAGON TRAIL
DAY 01 DEPARTURE TO SOUTH AFRICA BRUSSELS OR SCHIPOL
Depart from country of original to South Africa - Johannesburg
International Airport.
DAY
02 JOHANNESBURG - PRETORIA – WATERVAL ONDER
Arrival Johannesburg International Airport. The official Satour Guide will
meet you. After an informative city tour of Pretoria we will drive
to Waterval Onder, where we will have dinner and overnight.
DAY 03 PANORAMAROUTE -HAZYVIEW
The beautiful Panorama Route awaits us with its splendid landscapes:
Blyde River Canyon, Three Rondawels, Bourke’s Luck potholes
and God’s Window. We travel back in history at Pilgrims Rest
to the time of the gold-diggers. (Dinner and overnight).
DAY
04 HAZYVIEW – KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast we depart on our journey to the
Kruger National Park, a wide expanse of park preserved in its original
state. You will encounter a large variety of fauna and flora, birds
and trees. Perhaps somewhere the Big 5 will be waiting on us, Lion,
Leopard, Rhino, Buffalo and Elephant. We will have dinner and overnight
in a lodge on the border of the park.
DAY 05 HAZYVIEW – SWAZILAND
We will use the Southern exit in the Kruger Park and along the
sugarcane plantations head for Jeppe’s Reef. After some border
formalities we enter the small kingdom of Swaziland full of traditions.
This is typical Africa. In Miliwane we drive in an open jeep to
Executioners Rock. Dinner and overnight in typical Beehive Swazi
huts.
DAY
06 SWAZILAND – HLUHLUWE - EZULWINI LODGE
The tour takes you along to the Southern part of
Swaziland. We will cross the border at Lavimusa and enter South
Africa in Maputuland. This is the northern part of Kwazulu-Natal.
Fever trees (Acacia family) and hillside areas will enclose us en
route to Hluhluwe National Park.
DAY 07 HLUHLUWE – ST. LUCIA – SIMUNYE
Our first stop will be at the Natural World Heritage
site, the St. Lucia Wetland area. Onto the St. Lucia Lake, by boat
you will be able to observe crocodiles, hippo’s and beautiful
water birds. Lunch at St. Lucia. Simunye is next on our itinerary.
On horseback or ox wagon we will travel down the ravine across the
river into amazing scenery. The Zulus are very friendly and the
African Zulu huts are decorated in the traditional style. You can experience
how the Zulus live and work with a visit to the small town. A typical
Zulu and Afrikaans menu for dinner. (Overnight.)
DAY 08 SIMUNYE – GIANT’S CASTLE
We depart from our Zulu experience to the Majestic Drakensberg
Mountains. The environment invites you for a hike in the mountains.
Afternoon free to relax. (Dinner and overnight).
DAY
09 GIANT’S CASLTE – GOLDEN GATE
We travel along the Drakensberg Mountains the Sterkfontein
dam and the beautiful sandstone formations in the Free State Province.
At sunset the rock oxidation give the mountains a painting of different
colours. (Dinner and overnight).
DAY 10 GOLDEN GATE – ALIWAL NORTH
Time to experience a view of the Kingdom of Lesotho.
We travel through Cherry farms to a Private Game Lodge. You have
time to search for bushmen paintings, relax in the hot water spa
and enjoy the animals. (Dinner and overnight).

11 ALIWAL NORTH – GRAAFF-REINET
We drive through the expansive Great Karoo (semi
desert) and arrive in a jewel of the Karoo: Graaff-Reinet. (Dinner
and overnight).
DAY 12 GRAAFF-REINET
Before breakfast we enjoy a drive through the Graaff-Reinette
Game Park. You will encounter some animals only available in this
habitat. We will then depart for an informative visit of Nieu Bethesda.
The first stop at a Kindergarten with coloured children. (Cape coloureds).
Thereafter we will stop at our hosts on their sheep farm, 20 000
hectares. An informative lecturer on Bushmen paintings and fossils
found in the Karoo area. Typical Afrikaans lunch on the Veranda
of the farmhouse is included on the programme. After lunch time
to experience hand sheep shearing and more information on sheep
farming in South Africa. On our return to Nieu Bethesda a final
stop at the Owl House for a glimpse of a well known artist. We will
just be in time for a sun-downer at the Valley of Desolation, one
of the scenic landmarks in the Karoo. (Dinner and overnight).
DAY
13 GRAAFF-REINET – TSITSIKAMMA NATIONAL PARK
A final city walk of Graaff-Reinet. We will drive
through the Karoo to the Garden Route on the Cape Coast. Our lodging
for the night will be the Tsitsikamma National Park, meaning place
of Cool and Sparkling water. Breathtaking nature, indigenous plants,
bordering the waves of the Indian Ocean. (Dinner and overnight).
DAY 14 TSITSIKAMMA NATIONAL PARK
A whole day at your own leisure. Walking, swimming
or quietly relaxing at the sea front. (Dinner and overnight).
DAY
15 TSITSIKAMMA NATIONAL PARK – KNYSNA
Today we experience the heart of the Garden Route,
Knysna with its beautiful Lagoon. On route we will stop at Plettenberg
Bay. In Knysna time to browse in the shops at the waterfront or
enjoy an optional boat trip. Dinner and overnight in Knysna.
DAY 16 KNYSNA – SWARTBERGPAS - PRINS ALBERT
Our route takes us to Oudtshoorn across the Outeniqua
Mountains. First we visit an Ostrich-farm and for all the brave,
a ride on an ostrich. We then leave for the Swartberg Pass, one
of the most spectacular mountain passes in South Africa. Lunch will
be served at “Kobus se Gat”, where you will enjoy typical
Little Karoo hospitality. On route to Prins Albert we will often
make photography stops and short walks. Dinner will be a surprise.
(Overnight.)
DAY 17 PRINS ALBERT - CERES
Late morning tea or coffee at the historical Matjiesfontein on
route to Ceres. Private overnight on a fruit farm, enjoy real South
African hospitality.
DAY
18 CERES – STELLENBOSCH – CAPE TOWN
We travel via Worcester and the Paarl and will
arrive in the wine district of Stellenbosch. Lunch and informative
wine tasting at Hazendal. After a visit of Stellenbosch we depart
for Table Mountain (if weather permits). On top of Table Mountain
you have a panorama view of the Mother City with Robben Island in
the distance. (Dinner and overnight).
DAY 19 CAPE TOWN – CAPE OF GOOD HOPE – CHAPMANSPEAK
On our way to Cape Point, the most Southern point
in Cape Town, we will stop at Muizenberg, Simon’s Town and
the Penguin Colony at the Boulders. At Cape Point you can take a
walk with an exceptional view of both the Indian and Atlantic Oceans
around you. Lunch. Via Chapmanspeak back to Cape Town following
surprise farewell dinner.
DAY
20 CAPE TOWN – HOUT BAY - FLIGHT
After a city tour of Cape Town, we are on our way
to Hout Bay and a boat trip to Seal Island. We return to Cape Town
and stop at the Waterfront. Lunch. Final shopping and then on route
to the Airport via Bloubergstrand.
DAY 21 RETURN FLIGHT
Arrival home.
