NAMIBIA SHORT BREAKS:

3 DAY SOSSUSVLEI FLY-IN

(STFS3)

Namibia:

A rugged and solitary country, a land of vast open spaces.

General Tour Information

Tour validity 01.11.09 until 31.10.10

Guaranteed weekly departures, unless otherwise indicated.

Min. 1 passenger, max. 10 passengers per tour, unless otherwise indicated.

Pre- and post nights in Windhoek for most tours required due to early departure on first and late arrival on last tour day.

Complimentary passenger collection service from most Windhoek hotels & guest houses.

Scheduled tours guided bi-lingual in German & English, unless otherwise indicated. Other languages on request.

All itineraries are subject to change.

VISAS REQUIRED: The onus is on the passenger to ensure that relevant entry / exit requirements are met, and personal documentation is in order.

Namibia Tour packages are modular

Modular tours allow for an exciting way to experience this vast country with an extraordinary array of wildlife and natural attractions. Most tour packages can be extended by adding sectors that showcase a different region or interest. Due to the possibility of combining tour packages, passenger numbers, and tour guides may vary in a tour consisting of more than one module.

Comfortable, air conditioned vehicles

As Namibia is predominately desert terrain, expect rough and dusty gravel roads and high temperatures. Vehicles are by design not completely dust-proof.

Climate

Namibia is a semi-desert country with a generally dry climate.

Average summer temperatures (October to April) vary from 20 - 34°C (daytime) and drop to about 18°C at night. Summer is the main rainy season. Unevenly distributed throughout the country, rain normally falls in short thunderstorms. These can cause roads to be washed away and rivers to be flooded. In this case itineraries might have to be re-scheduled at short notice.

Average winter temperatures (May to September) vary from 18 - 24°C (daytime) and drop to about 0 - 10°C at night. Frost occurs. A winter jacket is advisable.

Additional Services

Private guided tours, self-drive tours, 4x4 vehicle hire, Group & Incentive Tours, Fly-In Safaris, Transfers.

Community visits

Aus Information centre

On the initiative of locals, members of the Aus community established the Aus Community Conservation Trust (ACCT) in 2004. With money from development aid and nature conservation funds, the Aus Information Centre was eventually built. The most important goals are:

-  Increase visitor awareness of the attractions of the area, and the facilities of the centre.

-  Raise funding for community projects through rental income and sale of handicrafts and homemade cakes and pastries

-  Tourism training opportunities for the young people in the community

-  Increase community awareness of the ecological and economic significance of nature

OvaHimba village

A guided tour to this village allows an insight into today’s way of life of the OvaHimba people; their ancient traditions and beliefs combined with the influence of “civilisation”. Income generated through visitors helps to sustain this tribe and support the many orphaned or abandoned children, enabling them to grow up in the self-conscious spirit of their ancestors as well as to receive school education to face the challenges of the future.

The Living Museum of the Mafwe people opened in February 2008 and gives an authentic insight into the traditional culture of the Mafwe. Locals in the little village of Singalamwe demonstrate their traditional craftsmanship and entertain through singing, dancing and games. The Living Museum brings direct benefit to the Mafwe community through entrance fees and sales of traditional crafts from the museum shop as well as maintaining their traditional lifestyle.

Lucky Kindergarden in “DRC” settlement

The Lucky Kindergarden was founded in 2000 by Meme Ndeshi Launa Paulus in the Democratic Resettlement Community, “DRC”, the poorest suburb of Swakopmund. Meme Launa currently cares for 27 children, who would otherwise be spending their days alone or on the streets while their parents search for work. The crèche is funded by private donations and contributions by parents where possible. Meme Launa, through her dedication and kindness, is helping to make a difference in the lives of some of the most vulnerable children.
