    As time meandered from the 19th Century towards the dawn of the new era, a dream was born. A dream of harnessing steam technology to link Africa’s vast south to north, around the awe-inspiring mountain ranges that dot the continent, through the apparently arid desert landscapes, over untamed savannah grasslands teeming with wildlife. From the Cape all the way to Cairo… all of this on parallel lines of tempered steel.

    It is from this dream that The Blue Train was born. Cairo was never to be, but the dreamers persevered and The Blue Train now traverses South Africa and its breath-taking scenery in a manner that befits the mystique that has grown around it.

    Maximum 2 guests per suite. Rates are per person, inclusive of all meals, high tea, drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and off-the train excursions excluding French champagne, caviar and external telephone calls.
    Rates quoted are for a one-way journey and are subject to change without prior notification. Arrival times and off-the train excursions cannot be guaranteed. Reservations for children on request only.

    Special requests for meals (e.g. Kosher and Halaal) to be specified at time of reservation.
    Bed preference (double or single) to be specified when making a reservation, as double beds are limited.

    Guests are requested to check in 1 hour prior to departure at The Blue Train lounges in Pretoria and Cape Town.

    1. Day One Cape Town-Pretoria

      14:30 Register and check-in at The Blue Train Lounge, Cape Town Station.
      Guests enjoy pre-departure snacks and drinks.

      15:30 Boarding commences. Butlers usher guests to their suites.
      Suite orientation done by butlers. Boarding concludes at 15:45

      16:00 The Blue Train departs from Cape Town Station
      (will depart earlier once all guests have checked-in)

      16:30 High Tea is served in the Non-Smoking Lounge Car

      19:30 – 21:00 First sitting for Dinner

      21:15 – 23:00 Second sitting for Dinner

    2. Day Two Cape Town-Pretoria

      06:00 – 09:00 Breakfast is served on a first-come-first- served basis.

      11:30 – 13:00 First sitting for Lunch

      13:15 – 14:30 Second sitting for Lunch
      OFF-THE-TRAIN EXCURSION (Weather & time-permitting)

      14:30 The Blue Train arrives at Kimberley Station.
      Guests disembark and gather at the railway museum, from where they will be ushered to a bus, which transfers them to the Kimberley Open Mine Museum.

      15:00 Guests arrive at the Open Mine Museum
      For a tour of the mine. Guests are first taken to view interesting and historical sites. Guests are also taken onto an enclosed ramp on the edge of the Big Hole.

      7:30 Guests depart from the Open Mine Museum for Kimberley Station.
      At Kimberley Station guests are greeted with a glass of sherry.
      The sherry glass engraved with The Blue Train logo is a memento for guests to keep. After this exciting tour, guests are welcome to refresh themselves and enjoy aperitifs before dinner

      18:30 The Blue Train departs Kimberley Station for the journey Northbound to Pretoria.

      19:30 – 21:00 First sitting for Dinner

      21:15 – 23:00 Second sitting for Dinner

    3. Day Three Cape Town-Pretoria

      06:00 – 09:00 Breakfast is served on a first-come-first- served basis.

      10:30 The Blue Train arrives at Pretoria Station
